General Banking School - Year 1

Kentucky Bankers Association is proud to partner with the Indiana Bankers Association to offer bankers the next step in their career development. The General Banking School is designed for employees who possess a current knowledge of banking that sufficiently prepares them for this advanced paced curriculum.  The mission of this school is to teach bankers to understand the business of managing a bank company, the financial decisions that must be made, how each bank department is inter-related and the economic environment of the business of banking. The Kentucky Bankers Association is proud to have the Indiana Bankers Association as a partner to offer bankers the next step in their career development.

Who Should Attend
The school is designed for recent college graduates, management trainees, and bank employees who wish to build on skills acquired through the Foundations of Banking School. The following minimum requirements are suggested:

• An associate degree, ABA courses in Money and Banking, Principles of Banking, and/or Accounting, or equivalent college courses and three years experience in the financial service industry; or
• A bachelor’s degree in finance or economics and one year experience in the financial service industry; or
• A master’s degree in finance or economics and no experience in the financial service industry; or
• A graduate of the Foundations of Banking School.

Applicants with special circumstances will be handled on an individual basis.

Benefits of Attending
The General Banking School builds a bridge between concepts and practical application. The curriculum consists of practical classroom sessions and experience with a computer-generated bank simulation, BankExec. The balance of classroom and simulation creates a program that will be of value to bankers throughout their career. The school provides bankers with:
A comprehensive understanding of the connections between banking functions and the banking environment.
Practical application of classroom learning by completing Intersession assignments.
Opportunities to experience the complexity of managing a successful bank through a hands-on computer simulation.

Graduation Requirements
To successfully complete the required course of study and graduate from the school, the following requirements must be met. Participants must:
• Attend all classes.
• Attend intersession day in the fall, complete the intersession exercises and receive a satisfactory evaluation of the exercises.
• Participate in BankExec, as a part of the Year II curriculum, and receive a satisfactory evaluation.
• Pass all exams.

Classes & Materials
Participants will check-in for classes the first day of the program, Monday, June 2, 2025, at the Marriott Griffin Gate, 1800 Newtown Pike, Lexington, Kentucky. Classes will begin immediately following orientation. All classes will be held at Marriott Griffin Gate.

Curriculum materials will be distributed the first day of class. Participants should bring their own calculator and supplies for taking notes during class.

Meals
All lunches will be served at Marriott Griffin Gate. Bankers will be on their own for dinner.

Admission & Fees
Applicants are accepted on a first come, first serve basis. To apply, submit an application to the KBA by May 19, 2025. If an applicant suffers from any disabilities that might influence his or her participation in the school, please enclose a brief letter with the application.

The annual tuition includes curriculum, computer fees and some meals. The fee for the intersession/simulation exercises is $215; this includes materials, faculty review of assignments and any special meetings. Participants will be billed in August for this fee.

Applicants withdrawing before May 19, 2025 will be refunded all fees except a $150 cancellation fee. There is no refund if an applicant withdraws after the deadline or fails to attend the school, with the exception of extenuating circumstances. Due to commitments and expenses we cannot reverse, such as: handouts, food, beverages, room rentals, speaker fees, etc.; even extenuating circumstances will require partial refunds because of these expenses. Substitutions are welcome. Refund requests must be submitted in writing/email to the KBA.

Online registrations are followed up with an email confirmation. Once an online registration is started you must click proceed to check-out and then click submit to finalize the registration. Registrants can view events they are registered using the MyKBA link on https://www.kybanks.com.

Mr. Anthony C. Conder
The Cecilian Bank

I have worked for The Cecilian Bank since 1997. I started as a teller and have been a Customer Service Representative, Loan Processor, Security Officer, Loan Officer, Banking Center Manger and currently serve as SVP / Loan Administration Officer. In my current role I oversee the Loan Policy/Procedures, teach all the internal lending training programs, and work with all the lending vendors to ensure a seamless loan experience for both internal and external customers. I currently serve on the Graduate School of Banking - Madison, Bankers Advisory Board. I have been married to my lovely bride, Anita for 30 years and we have two adult children. In my spare time I enjoy reading, binge watching tv shows and playing Call of Duty.




Mr. Michael G. Dailey
Dinsmore & Shohl, LLP

Mike Dailey combines his extensive legal experience with strategic business sense in order to help his clients navigate the many complex legal and business issues that challenge their organizations. Mike counsels clients within the public, private, and non-profit sectors in a variety of industries including banking, healthcare, manufacturing, consumer products, and various service industries. His corporate practice focuses primarily in the areas of mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance, capital raising (debt and equity), and bank regulatory compliance. He advises boards of directors and senior management teams on all aspects of the acquisition/sale process including diligence and disclosure, working with investment bankers, transaction structure, negotiating deal points and documents, transaction financing and post acquisition planning. Mike also provides advice to his for-profit and non-profit clients in the areas of corporate governance, commercial contracts, federal and state regulation, corporate structure, and other general corporate legal matters. Mike was recognized in the 2010 The Legal 500 as a "Leading Lawyer" in Mergers, Acquisitions and Buyouts: Middle Market (sub-$500M). He is also listed in The Best Lawyers in America® for 2013. Prior to joining Dinsmore & Shohl, he was a national bank examiner with the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency.




Mr. Phil Dixon
Formerly With Field & Main Bank (Retired)

Phil Dixon retired from banking in 2023 after a thirty eight year career. He credits ten years as a National Bank Examiner with the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) for being a solid foundation in banking. After leaving the OCC Phil worked with problem banks in executive management positions serving as Senior Lending Officer and as President and CEO at two institutions. Phil’s final position was with Field and Main Bank in Henderson, Ky serving as Chief Risk Officer. Field and Main is the successor institution to Ohio Valley National Bank where he began his career in 1985 after graduating from the University of Southern Indiana.




Ms. Lanie Gardner
First Southern National

Lanie Gardner serves as First Southern National Bank’s Community President in Muhlenberg County, Kentucky. She is a graduate of the Graduate School of Banking (LSU) and Brescia University. Lanie also serves on the Kentucky Bankers Association Board of Directors, Muhlenberg Alliance for Progress Board of Directors, The Community Hospital Board of Directors, various other community boards and associations and serves in her church in ladies ministry and Sunday School. She is a frequent emcee at the KBA’s Spring Conference.




Mr. John David King
Hometown Bank of Corbin, Inc.

John David King is the Barbourville Market President and Chief Financial Officer for Hometown Bank, Corbin, KY. He has 36 years of experience in community banking with extensive experience in financial analysis, Bank investments, interest rate risk and liquidity management. He has served as a faculty member of the KBA General Banking School since 2000 and has been an instructor for The American Institute of Banking. He received his Professional Masters in Banking from the GSB at LSU and Sheshunoff Consulting. Additionally, he graduated from the Graduate School of Banking at LSU, the Kentucky Bank Management School and the KBA General Banking School. He received a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and Economics from Union College in Barbourville, KY.




Mr. Donald J. Perry
Kentucky Farmers Bank Corporation

Donald J. Perry currently serves as Senior Vice President and Investments Manager for Kentucky Farmers Bank. Perry is responsible for investing the bank's assets, pension plan and trust assets. He is also part of KFB's executive management team which sets the bank strategic direction and addresses high level issues. Born and raised in Florence, Ky., Perry graduated from Eastern Kentucky University in 1986 with a B.S. degree in Industrial Technology and immediately went to work for Ashland Petroleum as a computer analyst. While working as Project Manager in the Information Technology Department, Perry earned a Masters in Business Administration from EKU and began working in a financial capacity as a senior financial analyst. The last three years of his 17 year career with Ashland was spent in an entrepreneurial capacity developing new business opportunities for Valvoline. In 2004, Perry left Ashland, Inc., and began working for Kentucky Farmers Bank. This new role required the Perry family to move from Lexington to Ashland, Ky., in 2007. Since the move, Perry has become very involved with community activities. Perry currently serves as Chair for the United Way Board for Northeastern Kentucky, is part of the Ashland Alliance, and supports the Paramount Arts Center in Ashland. Perry is also still involved with his alma mater and currently serves on EKU's Business Advisory Council. He is the current President of Beta of Richmond Inc., an alumni organization for EKU Betas. Perry has been married to his college sweetheart April, since 1986 and has two teenage children, Connor and Kendall.




Dr. Dianna Preece, DBA
University of Louisville

Dianna has been a professor of Finance in the College of Business for nearly 30 years. Dianna teaches in several banking schools including the American Bankers Association Business of Banking schools as well as the Kentucky's General Banking School and the Foundations of Banking School (formerly The Essentials of Banking School) and the Iowa School of Banking. She also taught for several years at the Graduate School of Banking of the South at LSU. Dianna has published articles in several journals including the Journal of Banking and Finance and Financial Review. She has served as a faculty representative on the University of Louisville’s University Club’s Board for three years. She currently serves on the board of directors of the Southern Finance Association.




Mrs. Jessie Southworth
Kentucky Bankers Association

Jessie serves as the Director of Education with the Kentucky Bankers Association. She has an extensive background in bank regulation and spent over 10 years with the Kentucky Department of Financial Institutions where she served as a field examiner, case manager, training coordinator and acting bank branch manager. In that position she examined bank and credit unions BSA programs, and reviewed examination findings. She spent five years as an instructor with the Conference of State Bank Supervisors conducting BSA/AML trainings training financial institution examiners from across the country.




Mr. Alain Tourikian
ALM First

Alain Tourikian joined ALM First Financial Advisors in 2019. As a director for the firm, Alain serves as the go-to resource and relationship manager for his clients helping them tap into the power of a partnership with ALM First to maximize their financial performance. With a deep knowledge of balance sheet risk analytics, Alain works closely with clients to provide new ideas, insights and advice on topics ranging from investment portfolio management, funding strategies, hedging, loan pricing, loan transactions, and more. He also collaborates internally with the entire ALM First team to deliver analytics and timely reporting to assist clients from strategy development through implementation and post-execution analysis. Alain has shared his expertise and experience at various conferences and with multiple industry organizations including FMS Chapters, West Virginia School of Banking and as an adjunct professor at Northern Kentucky University teaching finance. Alain has an extensive Commercial Banking background in Finance/Treasury with solid problem-solving skills that focus on maximizing stakeholder value, customer retention/growth and product innovation. Alain also possesses an in-depth knowledge of portfolio management, fixed income markets, derivative products, wholesale and retail funding sources, and risk management processes. He is known as an innovator in the financial institution industry, having designed and pioneered a number of on- and off-balance sheet strategies to protect and enhance net interest margins. Alain served as Treasurer for First Financial Bank ($8.5 billion in assets) in Cincinnati, OH for nearly a decade and has worked at various community banks throughout his more than 35-year career in the Treasury area. Alain received his Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Northern Kentucky University and a Master’s of Business Administration in Finance from Xavier University.




Mr. Vincent Van Nevel
Legacy Banking Services, LLC

Vince Van Nevel retired from FORVIS in mid-2024 and is now the owner and founder of Legacy Banking Services, LLC. Vince was a principal and managing Director at ProBank Austin for over 30 years. Following FORVIS' acquisition of ProBank Austin, Vince was assigned as a Director in Loan Review Services, under FORVIS' National Advisory Service Region, and Risk Advisory Services unit. At ProBank Austin's predecessor, Professional Bank Services, Inc. ("PBS"), he specialized in safety and soundness issues such as policy development, risk management, funds management, loan review, and credit administration, as well as troubled bank assistance, strategic planning, and litigation support. Vince has also been a key member of litigation support teams on engagements involving failed banks and thrifts. He has served as a testifying expert and consulting expert witness representing officers and directors of failed banks five times in the most recent banking crisis.


Education Alliance Cancellation Policy
Substitutions are always welcome and encouraged. All cancellations and substitutions request must be submitted in writing prior to the event.

KBA Seminar Registrations can cancel 30 days prior to the event date and receive a full refund. Cancellations received between 29 days and 10 days prior to the event will be charged a $50 processing fee. There will be no refund for cancellations received less than 10 days prior to the event.

KBA Schools Applicants can withdraw from a KBA School 10 days prior to the 1st day of the school for a refund minus a $150 cancellation fee.
